International Songwriting 2019

Together with Tampere University of Applied Sciences (Tampere, Finland), Hanzehogeschool University of Applied Sciences (Leeuwarden, Netherlands) and Linnaeus University (Växjö, Sweden) PXL-Music created an exchange project in which songwriters of the four courses – in a residency week on each location – write songs, record the songs and receive feedback from a panel of professionals. During the International Week 2019 PXL-Music welcomed the students of the three partner schools to work on songs in Hasselt.

Each day started with a masterclass of a musician who gave an insight in their working methods. Michel Gillain and Antonio Paz introduced the students in the world of flamenco, Marie Daulne (Zap Mama) shared her secrets on voicing and Johannes Verschaeve (The Van Jets) talked about the advantages of working with limitations.

After the masterclasses the students formed little groups and worked on a song in a short timespan of 5 hours.

The students of the studio course of PXL-Music collaborated on the recording, the mixing and the mastering of each song.

At the end of each day the students received feedback on the demos from their teachers. At the end of the week the students received feedback on the best demos from Yannic Fonderie (independent producer), Roeland Gijsens (CTM Entertainment Belgium), Erwin Goegebeur (EMI Belgium, PXL MAD Vrije Kunsten), David Poltrock (PXL-Music) and Sara Gilis (PXL-Music, Billie King).
